Electronic Participation (ePart) Conference
Many ICTs are employed to promote online citizen participation, especially online social networks (OSNs). Unfortunately, since most of them were created for entertainment purposes and do not meet the requirements of participation initiatives for democratic purposes, they may fail to achieve the proper participation outcomes. Therefore, tools compromised with such eParticipation requirements are essential. In this paper, we extend the definitions from our initial work towards the implementation of a platform to allow the deployment of eParticipation environments with social network characteristics. We describe details of this platform, which take into account the eParticipation and social networks requirements. We name the components with such characteristics “eParticipation components”, and their design is described in detail. Furthermore, we present our remarks about the project and discussions for future work.
